Item[edit]
A unique entry which represents a thing (book, journal article, person, country) or concept like love. Items are identified by a unique identifier that starts with a Q followed by a number, like Q11 for Shoghi Effendi.
Property[edit]
A way to describe or map the relationship between an item and data you want to assign to that item. If you wanted to assign a population figure to the United States item you would use a property, which is probably going to be called "population". Properties also need a defined data type, for population it would be "quantity".
Examples: Consider these four items: 'World Order Magazine', 'World Order Volume 1', 'World Order Volume 1 Issue 1', and 'Some Article' that appeared in Volume 1, Issue 1. These are all items, how do you map the relationship between them? The properties you would use might be called "has volume", "has issue", "has article". Therefore the statement becomes World Order Magazine "has volume" World Order Volume 1 "has issue" World Order Volume 1 Issue 1 "has article" Some Article.
We use different properties to describe the inverse relationships. For example: Some Article "part of issue" (P7) World Order Volume 1 Issue 1 "part of volume" (P8) World Order Volume 1 "part of publication" (P9) World Order Magazine. Depending on what chain you follow you can navigate from an article to the parent publication or from the parent publication down to a specific article.
