Data for country infoboxes[edit]
Hi,
I noticed you have a "population" property and thought it'd be useful to add countries to items, and adding properties "official Bahá’í population estimate" and "unofficial Bahá’í population estimate" to list official numbers from the U.H.J. or one of the Assemblies, and any other source respectively. Also to change the country infobox data on Bahaipedia to reflect this wording, changing "Bahá’í source" to "official" and "Non-Bahá’í source" to "unofficial". Distinguishing what is official from what isn't can be easily done by seeing if the source, a website or publication, is copyrighted by one of the institutions of the Faith. How would this be programmatically accessed from Bahaipedia, and do you think that is something I could attempt as well? Ernobe (talk) 08:13, 22 December 2023 (PST)
- Hi, it's possible yes but there are some drawbacks. First, if a page is linked from bahaipedia to here you can use direct access which means if population was property P1 you could get that value by adding {{#statements:P1}} to the page. If the pages are not connected you'd need to do {{#statements:P1|from=Q456}}. The first drawback is the reference can't be access in the same way, so you can bring in values but they will appear to be uncited. If the source is the same for all values you could in the template on bahaipedia do {{#statements:P1}}<ref>Some source</ref> but if references are different you'd be creating a lot of extra work with needing to add citations any time you wanted to use the number. Another drawback is you'd have to create a new item here for every country/city/etc. population value you wanted to use. That country/city item would be used also for interwiki links but it's a lot of work for not very much value. I think the drawbacks are too great for baha'i/non-baha'i population and it's perhaps more useful in the cases of values that aren't going to change but might still be referenced across projects like birth/death dates and locations. I planned to experiment with all this sometime. David (talk) 12:04, 22 December 2023 (PST)

Didn't see "Covenant" in the search bar suggestions, assumed it didn't exist. Ernobe (talk) 12:10, 21 March 2025 (EDT)
